Welcome, September

The days may still be warm, but my heart is ready to burst open and welcome all that September holds. In typical years, there is a steady shift in the energy. The fire and passion of summer give way to a space of sweet contemplation. You can catch fall flirting with the birds and bees of early dawn. At our Hallowed Bones Sanctuary, the wiggle buts and whiskered monsters grow more and more content with sleeping in an extra 30 minutes— which we relish with delight.

I love fall because of its ability to hold the opposites. We harvest the life-giving bounty of the earth and watch the leaves on the tree slowly begin to turn crimson and gold. The air cools and the hearth grows warm, preparing soups and breads. The earth slowly releases all that was once alive, and begins its plunge into the stillness and the dark. It is in this pregnant pause that I find myself at home; contemplating what aspects of myself may be ready for release. What have I been carrying that I can witness turn gold and slowly float away? What can I give back to Mama Earth?

Welcome, September.
